The downside of a beam combiner is that you lose a little bit of power just as you do with every mirror and the lens. The mirrors aren't 100% reflective and the lens & beam combiner aren't 100% transmissive.

The beam combiner window/"lens" doesn't need to be the same size as your lens.This window is just something the beam passes through. It passes through at a 45° angle. Your mirrors are also at a 45° angle. Your mirrors are likely 20 mm ones. A 20 mm beam combiner would be an exact match.
